Six essential Grow Tent Must Haves to enjoy success

Whether you're just starting out or a seasoned grower, setting up your grow tent correctly can prove the difference between success and abject failure.

And let’s be honest, we all want to see our plants thrive!

This is where the humble Grow Tent really comes into its own. A versatile and convenient solution for indoor growing, Grow Tents are an ideal way to create a controlled environment that mimics the ideal conditions for plant growth all year round.

In this guide, we explain how to get the most out of your indoor set up with a few essential Grow Tent must haves – from lighting and ventilation to more advanced accessories like odour filters and monitoring systems.

A great set of Grow Lights

When it comes to lighting options for indoor gardening, LED grow lights are definitely the way to go. They’re energy efficient, produce less heat and can be customised to provide the ideal spectrum for plant growth.

LEDs also last longer compared to traditional fluorescent or HID lights, making them a worthwhile long-term investment. If you are developing seedlings and young plants, T5 fluorescent lights, are a great alternative as they can provide a full light spectrum.

An exhaust fan and circulation fan

To remove excess heat and humidity from your Grow Tent, an exhaust fan and a circulation fan is an essential combination. Place the exhaust fan at the top of the tent to extract warm air and use the circulation fan to ensure all the plants receive consistent and adequate ventilation.

If unwanted smells are causing you (or your neighbours) problems, a carbon filter could help to eliminate odours. We stock a wide range of Carbon Filters, starting from around £65.

Accurate digital thermometer

If you want to enjoy indoor growing success, you need to maintain the right temperature and humidity levels. The ideal temperature for most plants is between 70-85°F (21-29°C) during the day and slightly cooler at night.

To help monitor and control the interior temperature of your Grow Tent, invest in a digital thermometer. We like the HighPro Digital Grow Room Thermometer & Hygrometer because it can measure your ideal minimum and maximum humidity and temperature levels.

A dehumidifier or humidifier

Humidity levels should be kept between 40 to 60% for most plants. To increase or decrease the moisture in the air, use a dehumidifier or a humidifier like the Pure Factory 4-litre Humidifier.

Grow Tent heaters

If the temperature gets too high, use your fan to cool it down. If the temperature gets too low, a cheap 28W tube heater should fit the bill and protect plants against the cold or frost damage. For larger Grow Tents, the LightHouse 2kW Greenhouse Heater will easily keep temperatures under control.

A moisture meter

To enjoy a large and healthy grow, plants need proper nutrition and watering. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot. Underwatering can also cause plants to wilt and die. Use a moisture meter and you’ll always know exactly how much water your plants need.
